Since the 1930s, we bought and used standalone TV sets for entertainment and information to date but now things are changing. Not very long ago in the early days of television PC, it was necessary to install a TV card in your computer to watch TV without using a standalone TV. This was not a task difficult, but it was not simple or elegant either. It has also rendered unfit for use with a laptop that has limited appeal somewhat. Laptops are also less frequent and more expensive a few years ago there was no incentive to develop such systems.

Now you can get good laptops for prices comparable with television sets. They are equipped as standard with USB 2 interfaces that are fast enough to cope with a stream of digital television from an external receiver. USB Satellite TV
It turns out that there are many products available that are designed to receive and decode digital TV signals and deliver them to your PC via USB 2. The installation is could not be more simple, just install some software and plug the device to your PC.
There are units of digital television USB available for terrestrial, cable and satellite TV so you should be spoiled for choice. All these devices comply with the DVB (Digital Video Broadcasting) standards in 3 basic versions. DVB-T for terrestrial television, DVB-C for cable TV and DVB-S TV satellite.
Disadvantages of using a USB Digital TV
Adding a digital TV adapter on your PC to watch free-to-air broadcast is a great idea but if you want to subscribe to any encrypted pay for view channels such as Sky in the UK you may be harmful. At the time of writing the only way to watch these channels is through a decoder designed for the service.
PC Digital TV is the future
As computers become more and more like TV is the need for a TV independently will diminish and eventually disappear. I do not know when this will happen but it could be sooner than you think.
